Medicare Basics |
Medicare Part APart A is commonly referred to as "Hospital Insurance" because it pays for your care when you are admitted to a hospital or skilled nursing facility. It also helps to pay for some home health care services as well as hospice care. In most cases, if you choose to buy Part A, you must also have Medicare Part B and pay monthly premiums for both Part A and Part B. | Medicare Part BPart B is commonly referred to as "Medical Insurance" because it covers your doctors' fees and outpatient medical expenses, including laboratory and diagnostic imaging tests, physical therapy, and durable medical equipment. Part B covers 2 types of services: medically necssary services and preventive services. |
Medicare Part CPart C is also referred to as Medicare Advantage plans. They are Medicare-approved private health insurance plans for individuals enrolled in Original Medicare, Part A and Part B. When you join a Medicare Advantage plan, you are still in the Medicare program and must continue paying your Part B premium. | Medicare Part DChoose from 2 ways to get prescription drug coverage. You can choose a Medicare Part D plan. Or, you can choose a Medicare Advantage Plan (like an HMO or PPO) that offers drug coverage. Before you make a decision about how your prescriptions are covered you'll want to consider how Part D works with your other drug coverage. |
